RESEARCH & INNOVATION - BREEDING

Main Goal

Within the Sunflower Research organization, we are seeking a high motivated breeding research associate to manage the new breeding project and collaborate in the sunflower breeding program for the Argentinean market. You will work closely with the senior breeder of the program and will be trained to grow as a future plant breeder.

Job description

Your main responsibility will be linked to the new breeding project and collaborate in the breeding program:

- Collaborated in organize and implement the operational aspects of the new breeding project: seed preparation, sowing, pollinations, scoring, sampling for genotyping, harvesting, shipment to counter season nurseries.

- Availability to travel.

- Coordinate external service providers necessary for the winter nurseries.

- Start the knowledge of the lines and hybrids, visit and score trials and nurseries to collect data and develop robust understanding of the germplasm.

- Collaborate in the analyze all data with appropriate tools.

- Assist managers in breeding decisions.

- Collaborate with internal research teams or third parties in order to contribute to implementation of new breeding methods, tools or software. 

- Manage a team (permanent and seasonal).

Skills: what we expect of you

To succeed in this role, you have a PhD (or master’s degree + equivalent experience) in agronomy with a good genetic background. You have a first experience working in a breeding project or a first knowledge in sunflower pathology. You are organized and have good communicator abilities.

You are pragmatic and can manage several projects and activities at the same time.

You are responsive and thoughtful in the face of new demands and ensure ongoing monitoring of action plans.

You will be able to analyze data critically and work experience within a data-science based breeding program is highly desirable and proficiency with computers and database software is required.

If you have a Project Management experience and a team-spirit, this is a plus.                                                                                                                                                                                

You can communicate in English.

You have a valid driver's license.

Recruitment process

Our recruitment process consists of several stages:

- the first consists of a pre-screening of applications by Jérémy, our Talent Acquisition Manager, accompanied by the future manager, to establish a shortlist of candidates for audition. Pre-qualification by telephone may also take place.

- A first interview is organized with the future manager.

- A second HR interview takes place shortly afterwards.

Finally, feedback is given to the candidates. Various tests may also be considered (language, personality, etc.).
