Main Goal

The Limagrain Barley Breeding organization is looking for a candidate to join our team and lead the barley breeding project in France. This position provides an excellent opportunity to develop your career working in a multi-disciplinary international environment.

Job description

Strategy / business orientation:
In conjunction with the Barley management:
- Develop germplasm and breeding strategies to bring new commercially successful barley varieties on the different market segments;
- Define the short-, medium- and long-term objectives of the breeding project and the target variety portfolio in close relationship with development and marketing teams;
- Acquire a good understanding of business challenges through interactions with all relevant stakeholders including competitors, official bodies and research institutes;
- Lead local collaborations and exchanges with public and private partners;
- Guarantee the FTO of the germplasm in compliance with company standards and protocols.

- Implement the breeding strategy and manage the breeding project;
- Leverage internal as well as external R&D capabilities in order to optimize the breeding project thanks to technical innovations;
- Manage and achieve assessment of breeding materials, visit and score nurseries and trials;
- Analyze all data with appropriate methods and tools in order to take breeding decisions;
- Provide all relevant data for the official trials and application process and play key role in the interactions with development team as well as official bodies.

People Management:
- Manage breeding team dedicated to the breeding project;
- Participate in the management of the station: facilitate team meetings and resources organization;
- Ensure that all team members follow the company standards regarding health, safety, environment and others.
- Promote innovation and maintain high technical and scientific level of the team;
- Develop close relationship with Barley breeders operating in other programs/territories as well as with the Limagrain Field Seed Research organization members.

- Prepare, follow and justify budgets and investments for the barley breeding project in France. In collaboration with Barley management, propose mid-term plan for the program.


The candidate should meet the following profile:
- PhD or equivalent in Plant Breeding, Genetics or a closely related field;
- Strong demonstrated knowledge and experience in breeding, quantitative genetics, agronomy and application of modern tools and technologies for crop improvement;
- Leadership and experience in managing people and programs;
- Innovative behavior and ability for building partnership;
- Strong interpersonal, organizational, analytical and communication skills;
- Experience as a plant breeder in a successful commercial program and/or with small grain cereals would be appreciated;
