RESEARCH & INNOVATION - BREEDING

Main Goal

We are looking for a senior scientist to lead our Wheat breeding program in France. These responsibilities include the coordination of all breeding aspects from nursery to maintenance breeding with an already established breeding team in our multi-crop research station located at Verneuil l’Etang to the east of Paris.

Job description

Research Strategy and Business Orientation

- Define, in close consultation with cereals management and the business, the short, medium and long term objectives of the breeding program under your responsibility and the target portfolio with development and marketing teams.

- Develop the breeding strategy and germplasm structuration required to sustain the leadership of Limagrain in this key segment of our wheat portfolio. 

- Develop a good understanding of business challenges through interactions with all relevant stakeholders, including competitors, government officials and/or public institute.

- Lead local collaborations and propose exchanges with public and private partners in line with company standard and protocols.

 

Operational responsibilities

- Design, implement and optimize the breeding strategy by fully integrating novel technologies available (genomics, software, digital tools, fast cycle schemes etc.

- Manage and report to Business and Research Management key program indicators.

- Manage and take in charge assessment of lines, visit and score trials and nurseries.

- Analyze all data with appropriate tools and take breeding decisions for the breeding program.

- Provide all relevant data for the official trials and filling process and play key role in the interaction with official authorities. Germplasm, licensing and collaboration

 

Financial Responsibilities

- Prepare and follow budgets and investments for the wheat breeding program. In collaboration with management propose mid-term plan over 3 years for the program for operating and capital expenses.

 

People Management

- Lead a team located in Verneuil station. Ensure that all team members follow all the company standards (health, safety, environmental, ethical compliance, government regulations, etc).

- Promote innovation and maintain high technical and scientific level of your team.

- As a member of the site management team collaborate with your pears to ensure smooth coordination in allocation of resources, use of buildings and equipment.

- As a member of the European Wheat Breeding Management Team, you are expected to develop close relationships with Wheat breeders operating in other programs or other territories as well as other key partners of the Limagrain Field Seed Research organization

Skills: what we expect of you

- PhD or equivalent in Plant Breeding and Genetics, or a closely related field, and at least 10 years of relevant experience are required.

- Strong demonstrated knowledge in plant breeding, quantitative genetics, agronomy and seed industry acumen.

- Experience as a plant breeder of a cereal crop in a successful commercial program, is highly desirable.

- Ability to use software for data analyses, management, presentation, and reporting; general competence in statistics and data management is required.

- Strong interpersonal, organizational, and analytical skills are needed.

- Leadership skills and experience in managing people and programs desired as well as leading and driving changes.

- Fluency in English; knowledge of French highly desirable

Recruitment process

The recruitment process takes place in several stages:

- the first consists of a pre-sorting of applications by our Talent Acquisition Manager

- the candidate's future manager then sorts through the CVs to establish the most relevant shortlist possible.
