RESEARCH & INNOVATION - BREEDING

Main Goal

The Limagrain Hybrid Wheat Breeding activity is expanding, and we are looking for a candidate to lead our hybrid breeding program based in Verneuil-l'Étang, France.  The position will play a key part of building on the extensive breeding and research investment to date by transitioning the program to a commercial product delivery phase. Job description

Research Strategy and Business Orientation

In close collaboration with the business, seed production teams and research management

- Develop breeding direction, ideas and germplasm strategies to bring new wheat hybrids to the market in Europe.

- Work closely with Limagrain’s European line breeding program leads to feed male and female pools and pipeline.

- Work closely with business and development teams for go to market strategies.

- Develop a good understanding of business challenges through interactions with all relevant stakeholders, including competitors, government officials and/or public institute.

- Lead local collaborations and propose exchanges with public and private partners in line with company standard and protocols.

 

Operational Responsibilities

- Implement the breeding strategy and manage the breeding resources.

- Design, implement and optimize the breeding strategy by fully integrating novel technologies available (genomics, software, digital tools, fast cycle schemes etc.

- Manage and take in charge assessment of lines, visit and score trials and nurseries.

- Analyze all data with appropriate tools and take breeding decisions for the breeding program.

- Provide all relevant data for the official trials and filling process and play key role in the interaction with official authorities. Germplasm, licensing and collaboration

 

Financial Responsibilities

- Prepare and follow budgets and investments for the wheat breeding program. In collaboration with management propose mid-term plan over 3 years for the program for operating and capital expenses.

 

People Management

- Lead a team located in Verneuil station. Ensure that all team members follow all the company standards (health, safety, environmental, ethical compliance, government regulations, etc).

- Promote innovation and maintain high technical and scientific level of your team.

- As a member of the site management team collaborate with your pears to ensure smooth coordination in allocation of resources, use of buildings and equipment.

- As a member of the European Wheat Breeding Management Team, you are expected to develop close relationships with Wheat breeders operating in other programs or other territories as well as other key partners of the Limagrain Field Seed Research organization

Skills: what we expect of you

- PhD or equivalent in Plant Breeding and Genetics, or a closely related field, is required.

- Strong demonstrated knowledge in breeding, genetics, agronomy, quantitative genetics, applied statistics and application of modern tools and technologies for improvement of wheat are necessary.

- Experience as a plant breeder of hybrid crop in desirable

- Knowledge of the target production region associated biotic and abiotic stresses, and relevant germplasm base would be appreciated.

- Ability to use software for data analyses, management, presentation, and reporting; general competence in statistics and data management is required.

- Strong interpersonal, organizational, and analytical skills are needed.

- Leadership skills and experience in managing people and programs

- Fluency in English; knowledge of French highly desirable

Recruitment process

The recruitment process takes place in several stages:
