Main Goal

The primary purpose of the role is to ensure the operational implementation of a selection program in compliance with selection frameworks and schedules established by the manager. This includes field execution of projects up to the validated data transfer stage. The role reports to the Breeder responsible for selecting parental lines for the Silage, Mix, and Very Early Grain markets.

Job description

1. Prepare, Organize, and Perform Sowing, Nursery Work, and Harvesting
Prepare, organize, and carry out sowing, nursery tasks, and harvesting activities.
Oversee the implementation and operational execution of these activities per the manager's requests.
Manage seed stock (logistics and inventory systems).
Format and track activities using appropriate software.
Recruit and supervise seasonal staff required for these tasks.
Coordinate interactions with various support teams and other station teams.
2. Organize Data Collection, Entry, and Analysis; Present Results
Organize the collection, entry, and analysis of data.
Present results effectively.
Plan and conduct phenotypic observations and sample collections for the laboratory.
Verify molecular analysis results.
Perform statistical validation of trial data.
3. Prepare and Monitor Off-Season Activities
Prepare and oversee off-season activities.
Prepare seeds for off-season generations.
Adhere to established schedules.
Handle seed shipments and receptions.
4. Manage All Seed Traceability Activities
Ensure all activities related to seed traceability (sowing, harvesting, threshing, labeling, classification, storage, and shipping).
Supervise seasonal staff: organize work schedules and train personnel.
Ensure compliance with decisions and applicable rules, including safety regulations.
5. Propose and Explore Innovative Solutions to Accelerate Genetic Improvement
Suggest and study innovative solutions to enhance genetic improvement processes.
Adapt and optimize experimental protocols.
Communicate specific needs.
Contribute to writing specific experimentation procedures and protocols.

 

The assistant breeder collaborates closely with all team members of their breeding group, other breeding teams at the station, and multiple support functions (Germplasm Conservation, Seed Production, Doubled Haploids, Genotyping Platform, etc.).
The position is based at the Colmar breeding station. Travel to trial locations and off-season sites is expected.

Skills: what we expect of you

Required Education
Bachelor's degree, University Diploma in Technology (BUT), or Master’s in Agronomy and/or Plant Breeding.
Required Skills/Experience
Hands-on experience in a breeding program is appreciated.
General computer skills: Office Suite, SharePoint.
Ability to quickly adapt to specific company IT systems: databases, data processing, and analysis software.
Basic knowledge of statistics.
Fluent in French and operational English. Spanish and/or German would be a plus.
Driver’s license (Category B).
