Main Goal

Define medium and long-term strategy and objectives of the Global Breeding team, lead a team of Regional Breeding Directors, Crop R&D Steering Councils, Breeding Teams across the globe, and R&D Trial Specialists with the mission of delivering winning and innovative vegetable varieties to the hands of growers. Lead the breeding organization in the timely creation of high quality and competitive vegetable varieties for targeted markets assuring good levels of collaboration and coordination with other departments and divisions of the company.

Carry out these activities in compliance with legislation within the countries where the company operates, and in accordance with the company's values related to environmental sustainability, employee well-being, and with its CSR and Corporate Responsibility principles.

Job description

- As a member of the R&D Global Management Team, contribute to define the strategy for R&D. Participate as an executive in the HM.CLAUSE G100 leadership team.
- Establish the company's breeding development strategic plan for the medium and long-term (5-10 years) by defining the content of the international breeding and development programs, and strategies to deliver products aligned with the objectives set by the Global Strategic Committee, recommendations from the strategic marketing group and other business partners and collaborators in research, production and sales.
- Lead teams to translate company and crop strategies into breeding strategies; plan and lead complex initiatives involving inter-disciplinary and globally distributed teams.
- Develop and implement metrics to track the breeding team's impact on new product delivery; drive and measure breeding program performance.
- People management and development with a team-based spirit.
- Leverage the diverse strengths of team members and support continuous development while maximizing collaboration, productivity and delivery.
- Develop and track annual budgets for the Breeding and Trial Specialist team emphasizing business alignment and return on investment.
- Promote Quality as well as Plant Health, Safety & Environmental practices and procedures at all sites
- Secure good germplasm stewardship, including: compliant seed movement, FTO, Nagoya compliance, adventitious GM presence monitoring, seed health management.
- Address complex problems through critical thinking and the leading of others to collaborate to deliver novel solutions.
- Manage the implementation of programs ensuring the best path is being chosen, and interfacing with production, sales and marketing functions with a "speed to market" approach.
- Coordinate research collaborations with other internal teams and external partners, maintaining good contacts with national and international centers, universities and other external partners
- Provide strong scientific oversight in all areas connected to the company's breeding profession, ensuring HM.CLAUSE's research competitiveness position is maintained in the medium and long-term.


- PhD in Plant Breeding or related field
- Experience/knowledge of contemporary breeding technologies and strategies
- Proficient in English and French
- Track record of leading people and teams to success, high engagement, and business delivery

• Experience managing teams of scientific international experts, with multiple management styles, as well as employees at all levels of the organization.
• Expanded knowledge of biotechnology, pathology programs, molecular analysis, genetics and new tools and technologies available.
• Extended knowledge of logical research in plant breeding, knowledge of the vegetable seed sector and understanding of its international markets evolution and demands.
