Main Goal

HM.CLAUSE is a Business Unit of Limagrain, an international agricultural co-operative founded and managed by farmers. HM.CLAUSE specializes in the breeding, production, and sale of vegetable seeds. Our global team of experts and state-of-the-art research facilities enable us to work side-by-side with growers to provide the most regionally relevant and reliable vegetable seeds available.
Managing our manufacturing-plant operations, aimed at; processing & upgrading dirty seeds to high quality useable seed product-form; warehouse management; seed-treatment & packaging; and final delivery to our customers. Ensuring operational performance of the site and our employees by driving continuous improvement and efficiency programs on critical topics to reach the next level in quality and customer satisfaction, Manages and develops infrastructure/capacity investment plan in line with overall HMC business road map and internal stakeholders. Securing our freedom to operate; with regards to health, safety & environmental regulations and community outreach.

Job description

The position directs and controls all operational functions in our Modesto plant, one of the major factories at HMC. The plant manager is accountable for the entire plant operations on site, key functions include: Seed Processing, storing, shipping, receiving, safety, quality, people training and development, cost preparation and control (Opex and Capex), labor anticipation and adjustments vs upcoming raw material plan, maintenance of the site.
The plant manager drives the short and mid term activities of Modesto, not only to deliver the operational expectations such as on time in full in quality and in cost service, but also to create a sustainable continuous improvement combining seed expertise and Operational Excellence, to develop a strong inspiring road map aligned with the business and make Modesto a place of choice. The position ensures perfect coordination with other functions, in particular within Supply Chain and with Customer service and sales planning. Plant manager Modesto is also a member of the HMC Global Operations leadership team. As such, you keep a global eye and contribute to the global road map. Position requires strong support and adherence to our internal QMS, SOP and Safety programs, in line with external regulation and OSHA.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

•Manage operational activities, in direct or by appropriate use of delegation through your organization:
o Drive, plan and organize resources to ensure the expected service level, on time, in full, in quality, at optimal cost and ensuring employee safety and motivation
Anticipate resources ahead of time (18 months) to optimize cost and match business needs
o Ensure day to day Continuous improvement via a proper mind set and structured sustainable approach and appropriate daily connections/communications with employees
o Build excellent communication and alignment with other departments, give visibility on activity status, set up ad hoc meetings to ensure customer satisfaction based on potential delays or issues
o Adapt the resource to the needs, be open to work with other departments to share flexible employees
Set a vision, expectations, and mid-term road map to create engagement, ensure sustainable alignment with business and bring the plant to the next maturity level (world class manufacturing). Take initiative to create or deploy appropriate programs/road maps to drive specifically:
o Safety – strong local lead expected in line with global Safety
o Quality – set standards, set a quality road map and QMS, ensure compliance, in line and with support of global quality
o Delivery – improve lead times, service level - in particular, deploy and support our Business Operational Planning project
o Cost and stock reductions – adapt means and propose incremental and breakthrough productivity projects
o People motivation and engagement

• Implement/include corporate strategic initiatives (cascade and translate into local initiatives) and provide clear sense of direction and focus
o Support, participate, deploy corporate programs or projects
• Ensure sustainable performance and empowerment by deploying and growing our ELITE performance program (LEAN) and others means
• Provide monthly Executive reporting
• As a pivotal function, actively interact with the Regional AMPA Executive Committee:
o Provide key updates
o Participate to ExeCom on ad hoc basis
o Actively Participates and act as of the Modesto Leadership Team.
o Ensure all needed interaction to improve our capacity to supply our customers and deliver the business
• Budget: set budget and ensure budget compliance
• Capex: prepare Y+5 Capex plan in line with business needs, build Capex requests, budget and execute allocated Capex
• Manage the maintenance of the site: in order to maintain and develop the site, put in place the curative and preventive maintenance, anticipate Capex accordingly.
• To ensure that the most effective seed processes are in place, maintain effective collaboration with the Seed Technology team:
o create/maintain ad hoc project management collaboration platform
o implement new technologies or new protocols effectively,
o seek for process innovation or improvements
• Ensure legal compliance; be aware, understand and act on the compliance gaps
• Perform regular employee assessment, hire with the future in mind
• Act as the contact point and representative for local authorities
• Ensure in-plant and out-plant communication
• Labor relations: Build and maintain trusting relationship with employees, create and animate proper dialogues
• Adhere to company rules and regulations
• Stay up to date with latest production trends, best practices, and technologies
• Foster networking and benchmarking inside HMC Operations, LVS and potentially other industries
• Strongly participate and contribute to the Global Operations team, lead meetings and projects

• BS or BA college Degree (Engineering and or Plant science preferred)
• 10 yrs. general industry experience
• 5 yrs. supervisory or managerial experience
