Job description

POSITION SUMMARY

This position will provide support to the Plant Pathology Application team activities at the Davis, CA Research Station. Position duration is May 2021 to February 2022.

This position will report to the Pathology Support Lab Manager. The Plant Pathology Department is offering a 10-month internship designed to give broad based exposure to the day-to-day activities of the pathology support program. As part of the program, the individual will be expected to fulfill duties determined and supervised by the lab manager to participate in all aspects of the support team activities, with a primary goal to meet breeder/client demand for production. Supports phytosanitary and diagnostics as required by job location. Job holder will conduct technical applications for production in routine application. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND REPONSIBILITIES  

•Actively participate in projects at the lab bench, greenhouse, and field (95% of total activity)
•Maintenance, collection, and disposal of plant materials from greenhouse
•Data entry of lab results and resource tracking via written and/or computer entries
•Lab and greenhouse housekeeping that includes glassware cleaning, equipment maintenance, etc.
•Keep records of activities required in routine application accountabilities in a timely and accurate manner
•Assist with execution of diagnostic assays
•Support station phytosanitary requirements by site location

Profile

 

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

•College Student or recent College Graduate, majoring in Agronomy, Plant Physiology, Plant Pathology, Genetics, or a related field.
•English language written and spoken
•Farm background beneficial

Knowledge & Skills
•The ideal candidate should have highly effective computer, data management, communication and organizational skills and be able to work in a fast-paced environment.
•Must have knowledge of microbiology and plant science
•Individual must display a high degree of self-motivation, self-initiation, and the ability to work well with others through good communication and interpersonal skills.
