Our global team of experts and state-of-the-art research facilities enable us to work side-by-side with growers to provide the most regionally relevant and reliable vegetable seeds available. This position will contribute to the plant pathology research support laboratory production deliverables in all species worked on at a local station level via day-to-day management, organizational support and implementation activity. This is a key support role in the execution of routine applied activities in plant pathology, with a primary goal to meet breeder/client demand. The Research Assistant will conduct implementation of protocols and methods to improve and introduce new technical applications for routine pathology. In addition, this position will be responsible for conducting phytosanitary monitoring and plant disease diagnostics on the local research station.

Essentials duties and responsibilities: •Actively participate in pathology projects at the lab bench, greenhouse and field (~80% of total activity) •Lead continuous improvement initiatives and implementation of new protocols in collaboration with Trait & Technology (T&T) and routine support teams for protocol transfer, under the supervision of their manager •Direct daily and weekly activities related to implementation-based initiatives •Provide training and support to the routine team, as needed, for activities in implementation •Keep records of activities and generate reports required in implementation accountabilities in a timely and accurate manner •Lead research station phytosanitary scouting and diagnostic requirements •Execute diagnostic assays •Other duties as assigned Competencies. To perform the job successfully, an individual should demonstrate the following competencies: •Strategic Planning and Analysis – Ability to plan, conduct and analyze multiple projects. Have a good capacity for attention to detail and accuracy in data collection. Understanding of team strategies and objectives, and the motivation to learn and constantly improve processes and tools. Ability to introduce new ideas for projects and execute implementation projects independently. •Technical Skills – Ability to conduct plant pathology processes and aseptic/sterile techniques in all project assignments. Ability to diagnose, isolate, inoculate and evaluate plant diseases. Knowledge of plant culture and maintenance in greenhouse and field. Comfortable with computer programs such as professional software and Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access). Ability to design experiments and have a working knowledge of statistical analysis software like JMP is advantageous. Ability to run molecular analysis (PCR) as well as interpretation of results is desirable. Continual development of technical expertise and knowledge through experience, application, and training. Understanding of continuous improvement concepts such as Gemba Walk, 5S, and Lean management. •Adaptability - Ability to deal with frequent change, delays, or unexpected events. Able to prioritize multiple projects simultaneously. Can travel on an as needed basis. Ability and willingness to work in greenhouses and outdoors in adverse weather conditions (high heat, humidity).

Education & work experience required: •Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) required in plant pathology or microbiological sciences •3-5 years' experience in research or applied plant pathology
