RESEARCH & INNOVATION - RESEARCH OPERATIONS

Job description

Primary responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to:  

  • Monitoring of 3rd party wheat and pulses yield trial plots.
  • Management of internal wheat yield trial plots, including field trial design, land preparation and planting, pesticide and fertilizer applications, harvest, seed sampling, processing, treating, packaging, and shipping.
  • Evaluation of and data collection from 3rd party and internal yield trial plots.
  • Maintenance and servicing of field and seed processing equipment.
  • Supervision of seasonal and hourly employees to accomplish tasks with due consideration for safety and health issues.

Skills: what we expect of you

Qualifications  

  • Bachelor’s degree in plant science, agronomy, horticulture, or related discipline.
  • Strong background in field and seed processing equipment operation and maintenance.
  • Experience with cereals production and the cereal seed industry is desired.
  • Experience with field research techniques including plot design, maintenance and evaluation of field plots, seed processing, data collection and analysis of research data is desired.
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally.

 

Skills Required

  • Candidate should possess good interpersonal skills, effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Solid knowledge of Microsoft Office 365.
  • Ability to become proficient with company database software and agricultural related technology such as GPS guidance.
  • Ability to work independently and/or with others and the willingness to participate in all company activities and tasks as required.
  • Have, or be able to obtain, a commercial driver’s license for transport of farm equipment and a pesticide applicator’s license.
  • Effective time management skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work extended hours under variable environmental and ergonomic conditions associated with planting, harvesting, and note taking.

 

Physical Demands of the Essential Duties

Candidate is required to stand, walk, talk, and hear. The employee is required to use hands to feel objects, tools, and controls. The employee is required to sit, stand, bend, climb, kneel, crunch, or crawl. The employee must be able to lift/move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift/move up to 75 pounds. The employee must be able to see for precise tasks such as emasculation as well as skills required for evaluation of disease and insect effect.

 

Working conditions while performing essential functions

Conditions are often dusty, hot, and noisy.  Exposure to both high and low temperatures, sun, rain, dust, potential allergens, and pesticides. Significant domestic and possibly international travel throughout key target areas is required.
