Main Goal
The main mission of the Carrot pre-breeder is to support varietal creation and innovation in collaboration with Limagrain Vegetable Seeds (LVS) breeding and technology teams. The Carrot Pre-Breeder will propose and lead Limagrain Vegetable Seeds upstream research projects on Carrot to transfer improved and novel genetic material to the breeding teams.
Job description
Main missions:
• Collect, maintain and characterize genetic resources
• Identify innovative traits in collaboration with breeders
• Manage a small team
• Develop new phenotyping methodologies for selected traits
• Lead/participate (to) trait projects in close collaboration with multi-disciplinary teams (breeding, pathology, markers, genomics)
• Genetic trait dissection selecting the most relevant approaches and generating appropriate populations
• Monitor technological developments in terms of general and fundamental pre-breeding knowledge in collaboration with other LVS pre-breeders
Profile
Profile:
• Scientific degree specialized in Genetics/Breeding (Master's, PhD)
• Good knowledge of population, quantitative and molecular genetics applied to plant improvement
• Good knowledge in data statistical analyses
• Knowledge in pathology and physiology
• Genuine field and plant observation interest
• Affinity for field and greenhouse work
• Ability to propose and manage multiple projects
• Ability to work in multidisciplinary teams and within a multicultural & matrix environment
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Good organization and coordination abilities
• Leadership skills and ability to manage people
• Fluent in English and French
• Ability to travel to interact with LVS and external collaborators and to visit trials
• Curious and innovative
