Main Goal

HM.CLAUSE, an international business unit of Limagrain Group, is one of the leading Vegetable Seed Companies in the world. We specialize in breeding, production and commercialization of innovative varieties for professional growers worldwide. A third of our employees are working in an international and interdisciplinary environment in the R&D division. In this context, the Molecular Geneticist will contribute to multidisciplinary projects in direct cooperation with plant breeders, pathologists, statisticians, data analysts, bioinformaticians and support teams. A molecular geneticist at HM Clause has two primary objectives. The first is to develop trait linked markers for breeding programs. The second objective is to test and deploy molecular breeding strategies that can drive genetic gain in commercial breeding programs.

Job description

The primary responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to:
• Lead or participate in projects from initiation to delivery molecular breeding tools or trait-specific genetic information
• Plan and execute trait discovery projects in collaboration with other research teams
• Develop and implement innovative molecular breeding strategies
• Support breeding teams to facilitate the implementation of new methods for improvement and optimization of the breeding process such as genomic selection and other marker-based breeding strategies.
• Ensure appropriate project proposals and reports including workplan and budget
• Develop intellectual property and ensure freedom to operate within the context of trait germplasm patents.
• Identify and propose internal and external collaborations with experts in the field of plant breeding, quantitative genetics, molecular breeding to maintain and improve competitiveness of the company
• Participate as an active member of crop breeding leadership council
• As a member of a global Research team, support both global and regional activities and priorities


Education and Work Experience Required:
• PhD in Biological Science, in a relevant field of molecular plant breeding or quantitative genetics and in deployment of strategies used in plant breeding.
• Successful experience managing research projects, ideally in private industry.
• Strong knowledge of breeding theory, Mendelian and quantitative genetics
• Good knowledge and experience with statistical tools and methods involved in genetic (diversity analysis, genetic mapping, association, genome wide selection…).
• Strong understanding of genomics tools and approaches (genome sequence, JBrowse, gene annotation...)
• Fluent in written and oral English language is essential.
• Excellent organization, communication and computer skills.
• Ability to drive change and influence team members
• Highly motivated candidate with strong communication, interpersonal, organizational and leadership skills and an ability to work in cross-functional, cross-cultural, multi-location teams
• Ability to travel, both domestically and internationally
